This is a work in progress. I hope to have this mostly complete by the time we have a service.
I may try to gather stories from others, and make those into pages. I would allow people to post them here themselves, but it's difficult to not get spam.
Daryl was born on October 30th, 1973 in Phoenix Arizona to Dora and Barry Bays. He was born 7 weeks premature, but none the less a survivor. He lived in Wickenburg Arizona, a small mining town south of Phoenix, and Rodeo capital of the world. His father was a mechanic, and rented heavy equipment. His mother a trained beautician. They lived on the outskirts of town in a home built by his father.
Six years later his brother Mark was born, a few years after that his parents divorced. His mother and brother moved to Phoenix, and his mother remarried. As soon as they could afford to, Daryl joined his mother and Step father John, and his second brother Derek. They eventually all moved to San Diego where John's family lived.
Daryl learned a love and respect for the outdoors from his family, many of whom were avid hunters and outdoorsmen. His grandfather was a carpenter, his father a mechanic, and many other in his family were accomplished tradesman. He learned many trade skills growing up, and eventually put those skills to use becoming a Journeyman electrician, and a general Contractor.
After graduating Torrey Pines High School, he set out to Lake Tahoe to live and work as a Snow Boarding instructor, and in the summers worked for the Parks Department. He eventually made his way back to San Diego to live and start his contracting business, and lived his remaining years. Daryl passed in his sleep December 29, 2024.
Despite his difficulties in life, just as he was faced with challenges entering this world, he was a survivor, and never gave up. He was continually trying every day, to face down his demons, to overcome his challenges, and to push onward with his life. I believe that, as depressed as he had gotten at times in his life, he always saw that there could be a corner to turn, and see the light on the other side. He never gave up, and was always capable of seeing something good, something funny, or something interesting everywhere in his life.
He was able to bring joy to those around him, and find joy in his life, in nature, and in the world. He was deeply loved, and loved deeply those around him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
I will make something available soon. -Mark
